Solar energy is becoming a more popular home energy source. Here are some of the advantages and
disadvantages of solar energy.
On the plus side, solar energy is a clean and silent energy source that can reduce your electrical bills
and improve the value of your home. The sun is a powerful and abundant power source. Solar energy is
available worldwide, even in remote areas, and solar panels have a long lifespan and require minimal
maintenance. Government subsidies are also available to help defray the cost of installation.
On the downside, solar energy systems have a high initial cost to buy and install. The systems also only
produce power during the daytime and energy storage is expensive. Additionally, the systems do not
work on every roof type.
While solar energy currently has some disadvantages, the majority of them are technical in nature and
likely to be overcome as technological innovation advances.
As the technology improves, cost related drawbacks should become fewer and the positive aspects of
solar energy should become greater.
