“Seniors Real Estate Specialist” Designation
The National Association of REALTORS® has developed a special designation for REALTORS® who are trained and
qualified to address the needs of home buyers and sellers aged 50 and up.
By earning the “Seniors Real Estate Specialist” designation, REALTORS® demonstrate the knowledge and
expertise needed to counsel senior clients through major financial and lifestyle transitions, relocations,
refinancing and selling their home.
Training for the designation includes: learning about the Federal “Housing for Older Persons Act,“ developing
sensitivities to issues and priorities related to counseling senior buyers and sellers, learning about the use of
pensions, 401k accounts, and IRA’s in a real estate transaction, and gaining an understanding of how
Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security impact real estate decisions for people over 50.
A REALTOR® who holds the “Seniors Real Estate Specialist” designation has developed the skills, knowledge
and understanding to better serve the real estate needs of the senior community.
